History

The Nursing Education Department started working at the Faculty of Medical Sciences with the establishment of Tarbiat Modares University in 1981. Since the founding of this Department, five Nursing program for MSc Program have been offered, including Medical-Surgical nursing, Pediatric nursing, Psychiatric nursing or Mental health nursing, Nursing Management, and Geriatric Nursing. In 1996, PhD Program in Nursing was offered aiming at training efficient and professional workforce in nursing education and research and policy making. To build up constructive international interactions, the Department has assumed the responsibility for training Iraqi and Syrian PhD and MSc applicants.

The Mission of the Department

Training expert faculty members in the field of Nursing who are committed to the Islamic Republic of Iran for various medical schools and universities, contributing to the development and expansion of higher education, participating in the development and strengthening of the science and the software production movement with an emphasis on Islamic culture, putting into practice the scientific-research achievements, and disseminating moral virtues and morality of sacrifice is in line with the values and aspirations of Islamic Iran.

Department Members Accomplishments

Faculty members and students are recognized figures in Nursing for their leading role in science production and their research activities embodied in their innovative and pioneering designs.
In addition to educational and research activities, participation in designing and revising specialized Nursing curricula at different levels, participation in the establishment and making contributions to the scientific associations of Nursing and other related fields, planning and implementing specialized workshops in Nursing such as: Nursing Management, Qualitative research, different dimensions of Clinical nursing and health education for the Clinical and Educational nursing community, contributing to the formulation and organizational the science of by means of participating in the launch of scientific journals, peer-reviewing academic papers in editorial boards of journals, planning and holding congresses and conferences related to nursing, official membership of the Department members in committees, councils, and specialized nursing planning groups.

Research Areas of the Department

The most important areas of research are improving patients life quality in chronic diseases, promoting personal and family health in different groups of clients particularly promoting community health, namely schools in different age groups, and ultimately improving nursing management through operational research to improve the quality of clinical care.
In PhD Program whose major mission is to train instructors and clinical researchers in the Department, the most important research areas include formulating theories and inductive modeling in clinical nursing dimensions, Health (especially children, adolescents, youth and the elderly), Nursing management and education, Nursing Ethics, instrumentation in measuring nursing and health variables according to the cultural codes of the society and assessing and evaluating designed models.
