Hydraulic Structures

Since the fate of the country is intertwined with the issue of water and its exploitation, the construction of structures such as dams, hydroelectric plants, water supply networks, ports, marine structures and other water facilities play a vital role in this regard. The Hydraulic Structural Engineering Department which was founded in 1988 started admitting master students in that year and 10 years later in 1998 it began admitting doctorate students in this field. Enjoying specialty in the areas of hydraulic structures, damming and hydroelectric power plants, the teaching staff of this department not only offer courses and direct students' theses but also conduct research projects.
The main research interests of the faculty members of the Hydraulic Structural Engineering Department are:

  • Hydraulic engineering
  • Evaluation of Seismic Performance of Hydraulic Structures
  • Hydraulic sediment
  • Water and Structural Interaction

The Hydraulic Structures Department enjoys prominent and committed faculty members who have come together to fulfill the basic needs of the post-revolution society. The results of the activities of professors and students in these years have been published in the form of scientific articles, technical reports and various books.
The vital role of water in human societies, especially in an arid country like Iran, reveals the necessity of comprehensive research in this regard. The existence of high scientific potentials in this field available at Tarbiat Modares University and the need for multi-dimensional research led to the establishment of water engineering research institute at Tarbiat Modares University in 2003.
Water Engineering Research Center of Tarbiat Modares University is committed to creating an evolution in interdisciplinary research in the water sector and becoming a leader in the acquisition, production and transfer of new and related technologies. This Research Center strives to solve the real problems of industry and technology and expand the boundaries of knowledge by establishing a strong communication with industry and national and international centers as the heart of its activities. The Hydraulic Structural Engineering Department as part of a specially designated university, is regarded a top national hope in breaking scientific and research barriers for the nation. In this way, surely, with the help of the scientific elites of the country, the greatest growth and excellence of the national universities rests on its shoulders.
The key objectives of the Hydraulic Structural Engineering Department for future include:

  • To study, identify and meet the research and study needs of the country
  • To conduct fundamental and development research projects
  • To identify and present new technologies in various fields of water engineering
  • To prepare and develop specialized software
  • To offer scientific and technical consulting services
  • To establish active and constructive relationship with other institutions and executive agencies, scientific and research communities inside and outside the country.
  • To carry out the necessary activities to apply the results of studies and research
  • To publish scientific achievements
  • To hold workshops, seminars and specialized training courses
